Family:

My mother's name is Steph Karlstad. She is a graduate of UW-Stout. There she played basketball for one year, but had to quit because she had to pay for college by herself. She worked three jobs while in school. She is now a manufacturing engineer and the general manager of the Midwest Truss Plant in Eau Claire, Wi. She is hands down the most important/influential person in my life. My dad did not attend college. Instead he worked construction for many years until being laid off. Now he is a semi-driver and drives for Karlstad Transport. I have one sibling, a brother, named Trysten. He went to college at a small university in Iowa then after a year moved back home and attended Chippewa Valley Technical College to be a nurse. He is still doing that and is finding his path. I also feel it is important to mention my dog. She's a pure bred Golden Retriever and a big part of our family!

What is your favorite sports memory?

Too many good memories to choose from! However, one memory that sticks out for me is scoring my 1,000th point. I had a career high scoring game that night and it was a home game. My friends were holding up signs in the stands and a lot of my family was there to support me! Before I scored the 1,000th basket I kept missing and the crowd kept making the "ughhh" sound. When I finally made a point it was the best energy in the gym I've ever experienced. The feeling I got was unexplainable. It was a goal of mine since I was in elementary school watching an athlete from an area high school make the same achievement. The best part is that my teammates were just as excited for me. I couldn't have done it without them. It made me realize how many support systems I have in my life. Truly, there is nothing like High School sports, but I'm excited to make new amazing memories like that as a Tommie.

Why did you choose St. Thomas

I am the type of person who acts on what my gut is telling me. My peers told me "if you know you know" and that definitely holds true for my experience. I toured other universities, but they did not have nearly the same culture St Thomas does. I could not have picked a better fit for myself. St Thomas offers everything I was looking for in a University and a basketball program. I am looking forward to all the memories I am going to make with my teammates and new friends. I am very excited to be apart of the program! I am just going to try to take it all in and enjoy every moment. I already love it here!

What is your career aspiration or Dream Job

Neuroscience - pre-dental track. I want to be a dentist!

Who inspires you or is a role model? and Why?

My role model is my mom. She has shaped me into the person I am today. She is so strong, independent, and successful. She truly knows me better than I know myself. We have a very close relationship and I and grateful to have such a caring person in my life.
