Tommies travel to Minnesota before hosting Omaha

St. Thomas set to play Omaha is home opener
ST. PAUL, MINN.- The St. Thomas baseball team will head across the river to face for a midweek matchup with Minnesota before playing the first home series of the year against Omaha.
Game one: Wednesday, March 25th at Minnesota (6 p.m. first pitch)
Game two: Friday, March 27th vs. Omaha (3 p.m. first pitch)
Game three: Saturday, March 28th vs. Omaha (1 p.m. first pitch)
Game four: Sunday, March 29th vs. Omaha (1 p.m. first pitch)

History with Minnesota:
The Tommies hold a 3-13 all-time record against the Golden Gophers with the three wins coming in 2009, 2011, and 2022.
Last seasons the Purple and Maroon and Gold met three times; the Tommies fell in all three meetings.
History with Omaha:
St. Thomas is very familiar with Summit League foes the Omaha Mavericks and hold a 13-8 record over the Mavericks.
Most recently, the Mavericks took the series in St. Paul in May of 2025 when they won two of the three games.
Scouting the Golden Gophers
The Gophers are off to a 16-8 start to the season and most recently picked up a run-rule victory over Big Ten opponent Indiana.
Senior catcher Weber Neels leads the offense hitting .337 but the Gophers have five other hitters hitting over .250.
As a pitching staff, Minnesota holds a 3.55 ERA and holds opponents to a .230 batting average against.
Scouting the Mavericks
Omaha currently holds a 8-13 record and is tied for second in the Summit League with a 4-2 conference record.
Offensively, the Mavericks are led by graduate student Jackson Trout how is hitting .410.
On the bump, the Omaha staff holds a 5.79 ERA and .283 batting average against.
Last time out
The Tommies dropped all three games of the road series to league leading Oral Roberts. Adam Puder led the way offensively hitting .417 with a home run.
On the mound, freshman Owen Marsolek had an outstanding performance in his start on Saturday, striking out a career high nine batters.
Recchio off and running
Junior utility Tanner Recchio has been off to a fast start through the first 22 games of the year. Recchio is hitting .341, with seven doubles, a triple and a home run. He also leads the Summit League with 15 stolen bases; the next closest is Adam Puder with seven.
Recchio was named the Summit League Peak Performer of the Week March 10th.

Leader of the pack
Head Coach Chris Olean enters his 17th season at the helm of the Tommie baseball program in 2026. Olean has totaled a 414-256-1 overall record (338-148-1 in NCAA Division III) since being named head coach prior to the 2010 season.
Olean is a three-time NCAA DIII Region Coach of the Year and closed out its DIII era by winning championships in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and region en route to a national runner-up finish and 37-10 record.
During the last 12 DIII seasons, the Purple won eight MIAC Championships, capped by third-place national finishes in both 2012 and 2014, in addition to the runner-up finish in 2021.
Olean mentored seven DIII All-American pitchers. He was voted MIAC and Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 2012, 2013, and 2021. In addition, Olean works with the Tommie pitching staff, which was a perennial top-10 group in DIII baseball.
