GRAND FORKS, N.D.  – The St. Thomas women's basketball team closed out its road swing in strong fashion Saturday afternoon, pulling away in the second half for a 70-58 win over North Dakota at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Tommies used balanced scoring, timely defensive stops and a decisive fourth-quarter surge to secure the 12-point victory.

With the win, St. Thomas is now 14-14 overall and 7-7 in Summit League play.

QUICK HITS:
  • Faith Feuerbach (Sycamore, Ill. / Sycamore) put up monster numbers for the Tommies on Saturday, scoring 21 points on 8-13 shooting in the victory, including a 5-9 clip from three-point range. It is the senior's second 20+ point performance this season and first since November.
  • Mikayla Werner (Hortonville, Wis. / Hortonville) added a career-high 17 points on 7-9 shooting, while Jada Hood (St. Paul, Minn. / Roseville Area) led the team with 10 rebounds Saturday afternoon.

SCORING SUMMARY:
First Quarter: St. Thomas got off to a hot start at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center, opening the game with a 6-0 run for the early lead. North Dakota, though, hung around, taking a 13-12 lead by the media timeout. The Fighting Hawks outscored St. Thomas 16-8 after the Tommies took the early 6-0 lead, resulting in a 16-14 first quarter lead for North Dakota.

Second Quarter: St. Thomas regained its composure in the second quarter, outscoring the Fighting Hawks 17-11 to take a 31-27 lead into the locker room at the half. Feuerbach led all players in scoring in the first 20 minutes of play, tallying her first 10 point performance since February 4 at South Dakota State.

Third Quarter: North Dakota kept the game within reach coming out of the break, trading baskets through the opening minutes of the third. St. Thomas responded with an 8-2 stretch, fueled by Werner's work in the paint and another three from Feuerbach, to push the lead to double digits for the first time. The Fighting Hawks trimmed the margin late, but the Tommies entered the fourth up 50-45.

Fourth Quarter: St. Thomas put the game away in the final 10 minutes, opening the quarter on a 10-3 run to stretch the lead to as many as 18 points. The Tommies shot 46.7% from the field in the period and went a perfect 3-for-3 at the free-throw line, while holding North Dakota to just 30% shooting down the stretch to seal the 70-58 road win.
