Softball splits day two of Mardi Gras Mambo

The Tommies defeated Louisiana Tech, 8-2 and fell to Southeastern Louisiana, 3-2
YOUNGSVILLE, La. – Two top teams from the Bayou State were on the schedule for St. Thomas softball (6-3) on Saturday evening at the Mardi Gras Mambo, and the Tommies gave them all they could handle. The Purple handed Louisiana Tech (7-2) their second loss of the season with three home runs in the latter half of the game and fell in a tight game to #25 Southeastern Louisiana (9-3), 3-2 with one more home run from Avery Wukawitz.
Game One
Ava Kleinfeldt went the distance for her third win of the season. She allowed two earned runs on nine hits and one walk with seven strikeouts, her most since striking out eight against Wisconsin on 4/8/25.
Avery Wukawitz broke the scoreless tie in the third inning on a sacrifice fly to score Zoe Trotter after she led off the inning with a walk. La. Tech tied the game on a single after they led off their inning with a walk.
The power bats broke through in the fifth and sixth innings. Laken Lienhard stroked her second of the season to score Grace Nosan and Miley Wichman in the fifth. Abbi Stierlen hit her Summit League leading fifth home run of the season to plate Izzy Vick and Zoe Trotter hit the third of her career to score Morgan Klein and extend the Tommie lead to 8-1.
The Bulldogs scored one more run off Kleinfeldt on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh.
Stierlen was the lone Tommie with two hits, while Morgan Klein and Zoe Trotter each reached safely twice with a hit and walk.
Game Two
Avery Wukawitz started off the Tommies' marquee match up against Southeastern Louisiana with a bang on a smashing home run to left center fielder on the third pitch of the game. The Lions answered right back with a run in the bottom of the first to capitalize on a Tommie error.
The Toms left two runners on in the top of the second before Ella Cook worked a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom half. Cook pitched valiantly through six full innings with one earned run (3 total) on five hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.
Wukawitz led off the third with a triple and scored on a Mya Tautges single up the middle. Tautges stole second base but was stranded on third at the end of the frame.
The Lions answered to tie the ballgame in the bottom of the fourth to capitalize on a second Purple error. Cook allowed her only earned run of the game in the fifth after a leadoff walk and single.
Cook was also the last base runner for the Tommies after her inning-opening walk in the top of the sixth.

Northwestern State (3-7) is last on the schedule at the "Mambo." First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
