Softball returns to Mardi Gras Mambo

The Tommies face strong competition this weekend in Louisiana
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Tommies smashed their way to a 4-1 opening weekend record and a +30-run differential with strong performances up and down the lineup. The Purple hit 14 home runs, fourth most in the entire nation, with seven different hitters striking at least one over the fence. St. Thomas and its red-hot bats head down to the Mardi Gras Mambo in Youngsville, Louisiana to face off against strong competition headlined by #25 Southeastern Louisiana.
All five of their games will be played at the Youngsville Sports Complex with first pitch of game one against Sam Houston (3-2) scheduled for 2:00 pm on Friday, February 13. Game two against Nicholls (2-2) will begin shortly after and is scheduled for 4:00 pm. Day two holds two opponents from the Bayou State with a 3:00 pm start against Louisiana Tech (5-0) and 5:00 pm first pitch against 25th ranked Southeastern Louisiana (4-3). The Toms' final opponent of the weekend is Northwestern State (1-5) at 10:00 am on Sunday.
The Tommies have never played Sam Houston.
They are 1-1 all-time against Nicholls with a 4-3 extra inning victory the last time they played in 2023, Avery Wukawitz went 2-4 with a triple while Ella Cook went 4.1 innings of two-run ball with five strikeouts.
St. Thomas is also 1-1 against Louisiana Tech with a 3-0 win in 2023. Wukawitz and Cook each recorded a hit in the win and Ella went 2.0 innings without allowing a run in the circle.
Southeastern Louisiana has had the Purple's number with wins in all four matchups all-time. Northwestern State is also undefeated against St. Thomas with a pair of 5-3 wins in 2022 and 2023.
