The Tommies finish the weekend 3-2 at the Mardi Gras Mambo
YOUNGSVILLE, La. – Avery Wukawitz led off the game with a solo home run for the second game in a row, this time in a win, over Northwestern State (3-8) on Sunday morning at the Mardi Gras Mambo. The Tommies (7-3) run-ruled the Lady Demons, 9-1 in five innings. Mya Tautges got the win in the circle.
The right-handed freshman starter went five innings and allowed one earned run on seven hits with no walks and one strikeout. Tautges induced 11 ground outs including three to herself.
Mya got run support instantly when Wukawitz smacked a 3-2 pitch over the right field fence to lead off the top of the first. She then led off the Tommies' seven-run third inning with a home run to center field, her Summit League-leading sixth of the season.
The Toms plated six more runs on: an Ella Cook double, Grace Nosan single, wild pitch (Brier Blietz scored), Kyllie Weingart walk, Avery Wukawitz walk, and Laken Lienhard walk. Northwestern State scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the third on three softly hit two-out singles.
Grace Nosan put the Toms back in run-rule contention with a solo blast in the top of the fourth. Tautges finished out the game with a popout to Ruby Moore at second in the bottom of the fifth.
St. Thomas run-ruled their Sunday opponent for the second time in as many weeks.
