Softball back to Texas for Lion Classic

The Tommies enter week three with their best record through 10 games in program history
ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Thomas Softball (7-3) continues the grind of early-season tournaments with a third trip down south. This time they fly down to Commerce, Texas for the Lion Classic hosted by East Texas A&M. The Purple come off a 3-2 week with strong wins over Nicholls, Louisiana Tech, and Northwestern State along with a tight loss to Southeastern Louisiana.
All five of their games will be played at the John Cain Family Softball Complex with first pitch of game one against SIUE (2-8) scheduled for 10:00 am on Friday, February 20. Game two against North Texas (3-8) will begin shortly after and is scheduled for 12:30 pm. Day two begins with a 9:00 am first pitch against Southern University (4-4) and concludes with the first of two games against the hosting Lions (5-6) at 3:45 pm. St. Thomas' final game of the weekend is again against East Texas A&M with an 11:15 am first pitch on Sunday.
The Tommies are 1-0 against the SIUE Cougars with an 11-3 win in five innings on the Cougars home field in 2024. Ella Cook homered, brought home three RBI, and got the win in the circle with nine strikeouts.
The Purple have never played their other three opponents at the Lion Classic. East Texas A&M is 0-1 against the Summit League with a 9-2 loss to SDSU this season. The other two (Southern & North Texas) have not played a Summit team in 2026.
