Women’s Hockey heads to Columbus for showdown with No. 2 Ohio State

Tommies ready for WCHA series with No. 2 Ohio State

ST. PAUL, MINN.- The St. Thomas women's hockey team (10-14-0, 5-13-0) hits the road to take on the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes (21-3-0, 15-3-0). Puck drop is slated for 5 p.m. CT on Friday, January 23rd and 12 p.m. CT Saturday, January 24th at the OSU Ice Rink.

Last Time Out 

After sweeping the Bemidji State Beavers to open the 2026 portion of the schedule, the Tommies were most recently swept by No. 1 Wisconsin at home. 

 

St. Thomas fell 5-1 in both WCHA contests, Chloe Boreen and Rylee Bartz scored the tow Tommie goals on the weekend.  

 

WCHA Honors  

The Tommies have received four weekly league honors so far this season. Rylee Bartz leads the way with two forwards of the week honors. 

Rylee Bartz – Forward of the week (Sept. 22 & Nov. 10) 

Ellah Hause – Defender of the week (Oct. 20) 

Jenessa Gazdik –Defender of the week (Nov. 10) 

 

WCHA Leader board 

As a team, the Purple sits first in penalty minutes per game with the lowest in the league at 5:15, second in faceoff winning percentage at .569, third in the league in power-play percentage with a .250 and blocked shots with a 12.13 per game average and, fourth in shot percentage with a .10 

Individually, Rylee Bartz is second overall in face-off wins/total face-offs with 292 wins out of 489, Ella Boerger is eighth with 266 wins out of 417 and third in face-off winning percentage with a .638. 

Haley Maxwell is second in the league in blocked with 42 and Ellah Hause is just behind in third with 39. Jenessa Gazdik is in eighth with 35 and JuliAnna Gazdik in 11th with 33. 

 

DI Era Record Holders 

Rylee Bartz now holds the single season goal record with 13 in the season as she surpassed Ella Boerger's previous record with 11.  
Boerger has also surpassed the single season assists record of 13 that she and Bartz previously held. Ella now has 15 assists on the season and is now the sole single season assists leader. 

Rylee Bartz (63), Ella Boerger (61), and Madison Brown (50) make up the top three in career points. 

Ella Boerger (39), and Rylee Bartz (32), round out the top two in D1 era assists.  

Rylee Bartz leads the Tommie offense with 31 career goals in the D1 era. 

 

Scouting the Buckeyes 

The No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes are 21-3-0 overall and 15-3-0 in WCHA. The Buckeyes are coming off a weekend sweep on the road at No. 14 Minnesota State. 

Joy Dunne leads Ohio State with 29 goals and 33 assists. 

 

History with the Buckeyes 

The Buckeyes hold a 20-0 record over the Tommies, most recently Ohio State swept the Purple at home 3-2 in overtime in game one and 8-0 in game two.
