Tommies fall 2-1 to No. 2 Ohio State in overtime

Horton tallies her sixth of the season in loss
COLUMBUS, OHIO - St. Thomas Women's Hockey (10-15-0, 5-14-0) battled the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes (22-3-0, 16-3-0) in a 2-1 overtime loss. Whitney Horton scored the lone Tommie goal, her sixth of the season. The Purple did pick up a WCHA point in the overtime loss.
Scoring Summary:
First Period: The first period was scoreless across the board. The Tommie defense was lights out as they blocked six shots and Julia Minotti tallied 12 saves in the period. Ohio State was called for a five-minute major with just three remaining in the period, but the Tommies were not able to net a goal before the end of the period. St. Thomas recorded three shots on goal in the period, two of which came off the stick of Chloe Boreen.
Second Period: The Tommies struck first nine minutes into the second period when Whitney Horton found the back of the net for her sixth of the season. Assists were credited to Jenessa Gazdik and Cailin Mumm. St. Thomas scored the lone goal of the period and took the lead into the break. Minotti and the defense once again held the Buckeyes scoreless with 16 saves in goal and eight more blocks.
Third Period: The Buckeyes scored the equalizer at the 13-minute mark. The rest of the period was scoreless, so we headed into overtime knotted at one.
Overtime: Ohio State then scored the game-winner 38 seconds into overtime.
The Tommies tallied a season high with 26 blocked shots.
Julia Minotti had a career night in net setting a new career high of 45 saves. Her previous high was 41.

The Tommies will return to the OSU Ice Rink, Saturday, Jan. 24th for a midday tilt as the puck is set to drop at 12 p.m. CT for the final game of the series.
