Drake Relays, Gary Wilson Invite up next for Tommie Track & Field

Tommies travel to Minnesota April 23, Drake April 24-26
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Thomas track & field hits the road again for a two-meet week as it prepares for the Gary Wilson Invite April 23 in Minneapolis and the Drake Relays April 24-26 in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Gary Wilson Invite, hosted at the University of Minnesota Track & Field Stadium, begins Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. with the first running event (5,000-meter run) with throws starting at 11 a.m. (hammer throw) and jumps at 2:30 p.m. (long jump, pole vault, high jump).
The Drake Relays start for St. Thomas on Thursday with field events at 2:30 p.m. and running events at 4:30 p.m. Friday's events start at 8:30 a.m. while the final day's events begin at 9:10 a.m. on the track and field events at 10 a.m.

Senior Hailey Shimon highlighted a strong showing by St. Thomas Track & Field at the Easter Invitational on April 17 by setting a new program record in the discus. Competing at O'Shaughnessy Stadium, Shimon won the event with a throw of 48.03 meters, surpassing the previous school record of 46.34 meters set in 2008. The Tommie women totaled 10 event wins, including standout efforts from Lauren Rott, who moved to No. 3 all-time in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.84 meters, Hannah Cornelius, who climbed to No. 7 in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.21, and Hailey Hindt, who tied for No. 7 in program history in the 400-meter dash at 57.32.
On the men's side, eight different Tommies earned individual victories. Mitchell Piehl won the 200-meter dash in 21.48, while Johnny Bezdicek took the 400-meter dash in 49.11. Charlie Power-Theisen led the way in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:08.14. In the field events, Andrew Eichmann claimed the high jump at 1.99 meters, Jack Rosner won the javelin at 47.49 meters, Will DiSessa took first in the long jump at 6.33 meters, Shane Aberg won the shot put with a mark of 15.09 meters, and Anthony Borom secured the triple jump title at 13.70 meters.
