Shimon sets Track & Field discus record at Easter Invitational

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Senior thrower Hailey Shimon continued to extend her discus mark week-by-week, culminating with a program record for St. Thomas track & field at the team's Easter Invitational Thursday, April 17 at O'Shaughnessy Stadium.

Shimon won the discus, one of 10 event wins by the Tommie women and eight by the men, with a mark of 48.03 meters. She smashed the previous record of 46.34m set by Shara Guidry in 2008. Fellow thrower Lauren Rott improved her personal best in the hammer throw and bumped up to No. 3 on the program's all-time list with a second-place toss of 49.84m.

Hannah Cornelius also improved her personal best in the 100m dash, now ranking seventh all-time at 12.21. Hailey Hindt moved herself onto the 400m dash top 10 list with an event winning time of 57.32, tying for seventh all-time.

The men's eight event wins came from eight different Tommies, bringing home victories in the 200m dash (Mitchell Piehl, 21.48), 400m dash (Johnny Bezdicek, 49.11), 5000m run (Charlie Power-Theisen, 15:08.14), high jump (Andrew Eichmann, 1.99m), javelin (Jack Rosner, 47.49m), long jump (Will DiSessa, 6.33m), shot put (Shane Aberg, 15.09m), and triple jump (Anthony Borom, 13.70m).

UP NEXT
The Tommies will compete at two meets over a four-day span, beginning Wednesday, April 23 at the Gary Wilson Invite hosted by the University of Minnesota and ending April 24-26 at the Drake Relays.
