Tommies secure series win over the Jackrabbits
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Thomas baseball completed its series against South Dakota State with a Saturday afternoon contest at Koch Diamond. Scoring early in game three of the weekend, St. Thomas (19-14 overall, 13-4 Summit) held the lead to defeat South Dakota State (8-26 overall, 5-11 Summit) in the series finale.
St. Thomas opened scoring in the first inning, followed by a two-run second frame to gain an early 3-0 lead.
Riane Ritter and the Tommies held South Dakota State off the board until the top of the sixth, as the Jackrabbits scored their first and only run of the game.
The Purple added a run in the sixth and seventh frame, extending the lead to 5-1 and defeating South Dakota State.
Seven Tommies recorded a hit in the series finale against the Jackrabbits, led by Ben Vujovich and Brigs Richartz who each recorded two hits on Saturday. Vujovich posted three stolen bases and recorded three runs in game three.
Riane Ritter (2-1) totaled five strikeouts and six scoreless frames, allowing two hits over 7.0 innings of work. Out of the bullpen, Max Skilbeck posted five strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work.
