Eight-run fourth inning lifts the Tommies to a win over the Jackrabbits
The Tommies were the first on the board at Erv Huether Field on Friday, taking the 1-0 lead after the opening frame.
After two scoreless frames, the Tommies posted an eight-run fourth inning, starting with an RBI-triple by Brigs Richartz. In two at-bats in the frame, Maulik totaled three RBI.
South Dakota State tallied two runs of its own in the fourth, not scoring again until the seventh frame.
The Tommies tallied three runs over the final three innings, earning the victory in the series opener.
Four Tommies recorded multi-hit games, as Matthew Maulik posted a three RBI contest.
Marcus Kruzan (3-0) allowed three hits and two runs, recording six strikeouts over 6.0 innings of work.
Chase Nelson made his first collegiate appearance on the mound, allowing one hit.
