Baseball splits Saturday’s doubleheader at Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – St. Thomas baseball continued its series against Tarleton State with a doubleheader on Saturday. After falling in a one-run game one, the Tommies responded with a 10-7 win in game two.

GAME ONE (L, 5-6)
Tarleton State took the lead early in game one on Saturday afternoon. The Texans held the lead until the Tommies tallied a three-run third to tie the game.

St. Thomas added a run in the fourth and the seventh, however a three-run fifth inning from Tarleton State lifted the Texans to a 6-5 victory in game one.

With two hits, Matthew Maulik recorded his sixth consecutive multi-hit game.

GAME TWO (W, 10-7)
After falling behind early in game two, St. Thomas recorded a run in the fifth, followed by a seven-run seventh to take the 8-4 lead.

Joe Roder then posted his first home run of the season in the top of the eighth inning to extend the Purple's lead.

Tarleton State added three runs in the final two innings, however the Tommies held the lead to earn the 10-7 victory.

In 5.1 innings, Walker Retz posted six strikeouts and five scoreless innings. Not allowing a run through 1.2 innings, Zak Endres picked up his first win in Purple.
