Men’s Hockey takes on the Falcons with home ice in the balance

THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
  • This weekend's series between the St. Thomas Tommies (11-12-5 overall, 8-8-4 CCHA) and the RV Bowling Green Falcons (14-9-4, 10-6-4) has large implications for home ice advantage in the CCHA Quarterfinal series. The Falcons currently sit with a .600 points percentage in fourth place with the Tommies closely behind in fifth with a .483 points percentage. Bowling Green hosts St. Thomas at the Slater Family Ice Arena on Friday, Feb. 7th at 7:07 PM EST and Saturday, Feb. 8th at 7:07 PM EST.
  • The Falcons are coming off a sweep of last-place Northern Michigan last weekend. They took down the Wildcats in overtime (3-2) in game one and in regulation (5-2) in game two at the Berry Events Center. Offensively they are led by one of the best power play goal scorers in the country, Brody Waters (14G, 5A, 19P). Waters has scored 9 of the team's 18 power play goals this season. Christian Stoever has returned to duty between the pipes for the Falcons after missing the St. Thomas series earlier this season. He has been one of the best goaltenders in the country with a 9-1-3 record, 1.70 goals against average, and .948 save percentage in 13 starts. He has allowed more than three goals in a game only one time this season. The Falcons are just 18-93 (19.4%) on the power play but have been good on the penalty kill (80.8%).
  • The Tommies continued their stretch of strong play to start 2025 with a win and four points taken from #15 Minnesota State. Cooper Gay continues to lead the team with 14 goals and six power play goals. Liam Malmquist's 32 points are the most in the CCHA. Aaron Trotter has gotten a bulk of the work in 2025 and has a 7-8-2 record in 18 starts this season. The third year netminder has a 2.55 goals against average and .911 save percentage, both career-best marks. The Tommies' power play has cooled off a bit but remains the top in the conference at 26.4%, the unit scored four power play goals against the Falcons in November.
