Tommies to face two NCAA Tournament teams, host six games at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena
ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Thomas men's hockey has announced its 2026-27 nonconference schedule, a 10-game slate highlighted by four matchups against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season.
The Tommies open the 2026-27 campaign at home against Air Force on Oct. 9-10 at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena. It marks the third time in the Division I era that St. Thomas begins its season at home, and the first since the opening of LPA.
The two programs met for the first time last season in Colorado Springs, splitting the series. The Tommies scored a program-record 11 goals in the opener, with eight different skaters finding the back of the net.
Following a second-week bye, St. Thomas renews its rivalry with former CCHA foe Minnesota State in a home-and-home series on Oct. 23-24. The Tommies host game one in St. Paul before traveling to Mankato for the return matchup.
The series marks the first nonconference meeting between the two programs since St. Thomas transitioned to Division I in 2021. The teams previously met in back-to-back Mason Cup Finals during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons.
After opening conference play, the Tommies return home to face first-time opponent Alaska Anchorage on Nov. 6-7 at "The Penny." The Sea Wolves recorded a notable 4-3 victory over eventual national champion Denver last season.
St. Thomas then takes on another former CCHA rival, Bemidji State, in a two-game series surrounding Thanksgiving. The teams open the series Nov. 25 at Sanford Center before closing it Nov. 28 in St. Paul.
The Tommies and Beavers have played several tightly contested games in recent years, with eight of the last 12 meetings decided by one goal or less.
St. Thomas closes its nonconference schedule Jan. 1-2 with a road series against the Providence Friars at Schneider Arena. Providence advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season.
The Friars were also the opponent for the grand opening of Lee & Penny Anderson Arena in October 2025, when the Tommies earned a dramatic shootout victory in front of a sold-out crowd.
