Offense shined in game one, pitching shined in game two for Tommie Softball

The Tommies swept the day with wins over Miami (OH) and Wagner

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – St. Thomas Softball (8-7) was a wrecking crew on Friday with a 10-9 win over the Miami RedHawks (5-11) and a 6-0 shutout victory over the Wagner Seahawks (0-4) at U.S. Bank Stadium to leadoff the 2025 Gopher Indoor Classic.

Game One Recap
The St. Thomas offense came to play on Friday morning and scored at least one run in all six innings. The Tommies needed every one of their 10 runs because the Miami RedHawks too packed their best bats for the trip to Minneapolis and scored nine runs.

Miami brought the game tying run to third with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the seventh inning, but Ella Cook slammed the door closed with her third strikeout in 1.1 innings to earn the save.

The same player that Cook struck out, Jenna Golembiewski, rifled a solo home run off Tommie starter, Ava Kleinfeldt, in the top of the first inning. It was the first of six home runs in the game between the two squads (three aside). Kameron Monson reached base via a controversial error ruling to score two runs and put the Toms out in front, 2-1.

Kaitlyn Raymond singled and scored Abbi Stierlen in the second inning and then later stole second to bait a throw and allow Ruby Moore to steal home. Stierlen was the lone Tommie with three hits but five others in the lineup tallied a pair of knocks.

Two home runs in the top of the third tied the game for the RedHawks. The first was a two-run shot to left center field and the second was a trouble ball hit to the outfield between the Tommies' left fielder, Kaitlyn Raymond, and center fielder, Avery Wukawitz. Both converged on the ball and Wukawitz captured it in her glove before a collision with Raymond jarred the ball loose and allowed the Miami batter to round the bases for an inside-the-parker. Both Raymond and Wukawitz remained in the game.

The Toms answered right back in the bottom of the third with a pair of solo home runs. Laken Lienhard smashed the first of her Tommie career to left and then Adrianna Young cracked the first of her career over the same wall to put the Tommies ahead, 6-4.

Abbi Stierlen struck again with an RBI single in the fourth and Cassidy Carby hit her fourth home run of the young season in the fifth, 9-4 Tommies.

Kleinfeldt worked into a two-out jam in the top of the sixth and was relieved by Ella Cook. The freshman gave up two runs in the inning before Cook struck out Golembiewski with one runner on.

Marleigh Louvar came up in the clutch with a pinch-hit RBI single to score Young. The run ultimately became the game winner after the RedHawks rallied for three in the top of the seventh and trimmed the lead to just one run.

Ella Cook worked herself out of the mess she created after walking three in the inning with a game-ending swinging strikeout.

In total, the Toms combined for 14 hits with three home runs and four walks, they struck out just once. Ava Kleinfeldt earned the win (3-0) and Ella Cook was credited with the save.

Game Two Recap
The offense shined in game one, the pitching shined in game two. Christina Crawford became the third different Tommie pitcher to record a complete game shutout this season. The senior righthander struck out six batters and allowed just three hits in seven innings of work to improve the Toms' win streak to three games.

Crawford got some run support via an Ella Cook RBI double to score Kaitlyn Raymond in the bottom of the first inning. That lead tripled in the second with an Avery Wukawitz two run triple to left center field.

St. Thomas' top of the order did more damage in the fourth inning when Kaitlyn Raymond grounded out to first to score Grace Nosan with the bases loaded. Ella Cook got involved again with a two run double to right center to score Ruby Moore and Wukawitz.

The Toms outhit the Seahawks seven to three and Crawford held Wagner without an extra base hit.
