Tommies tackle RedHawks at US Bank Stadium

3/1/2025 12:33:00 PM | Softball

It took Tommie softball six innings to defeat Miami 10-2

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – St. Thomas Softball (9-7) rallied from down two runs with 10 unanswered against the Miami RedHawks (5-12) behind six extra base hits and three home runs on Saturday morning at US Bank Stadium.

Recap
Much like they did in game one yesterday, the Miami RedHawks got on the scoreboard first in the opening inning. It was the likely culprit, Jenna Golembiewski who singled home her teammate and opened the scoring. Her single was followed by a ground out to second that doubled the RedHawks' lead.

That was all they got on Saturday morning. Ella Cook tossed five consecutive innings of shutout ball with four strikeouts. In total, she worked around 10 base runners (six hits and four walks) in route to her third win of the season (3-5).

It took the Tommies until the third inning to break the scoring seal, but when they did, they opened the floodgates. Ruby Moore belted the first home run of her collegiate career to left center field and then Ella Cook smoked a two-run home run to left center that scored Kaitlyn Raymond. Cook's hit ended up being the game winner.

St. Thomas followed up the three run third with a four run fourth. Abbi Stierlen doubled Adrianna Young home after the right fielder led off the inning with a double of her own. Avery Wukawitz walked with the bases loaded to bring home Anna Caruso. Two more runs scored in the inning on an error and a steal of home.

After a one-two-three inning in the top and bottom of the fifth, the Tommies looked to force the eight-run rule in the sixth. Stierlen led off the inning with a walk followed by a double off the bat of Kameron Monson. Jenn Kuhn came in to pinch hit and homered to left field to put the Toms up by eight.

Ella Cook got the final out after she allowed a pair of two-out singles in the top if the sixth.
