Tommies stifle Stetson in 52-10 win

10/25/2025 3:41:00 PM | Football

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of St. Thomas football team is rolling. The Tommies secured their third straight Pioneer Football League (PFL) win, stifling Stetson in a 52-10 victory. With the win, St. Thomas improves to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in PFL play.

QUICK HITS:

  • Andy Peters (Boise, Idaho / Timberline) broke the DI era program record for single-game passing yards and passing yards in a half on Saturday. The graduate senior threw for 292 yards in the victory, surpassing Cade Sexauer's previous mark of 286. Peters also tallied 240 yards in the first half alone, a program record according to available data.
  • St. Thomas has now had a quarterback throw for 200+ yards in five games this year, four of which have come from Peters. He and Amari Powell (Valencia, Calif. / Chaminade College Prep) became the first Tommie QBs in the Division I era to throw for 250+ yards in back-to-back games.
  • St. Thomas scored 50+ points for the third consecutive game, a first in the DI era. The Tommie offense has averaged more than 50 points per game since being held to just 14 on October 4.
  • The Tommie defense limited Stetson to just three rushing yards, 14 passing yards, and two total first downs in the first half of Saturday's game.

SCORING SUMMARY:

First Quarter: DeLand, Florida, continued to treat St. Thomas well, as the Tommies jumped out to an early 15-0 lead behind 15 first-quarter points. Joseph Koch (Menomonee Falls, Wis. / Menomonee Falls) picked up where Hope Adebayo left off, rushing for 35 yards and a touchdown to open the scoring. Andy Peters (Boise, Idaho / Timberline) returned to the Tommies' starting lineup and connected with Stefano Giovannelli (St. Louis Park, Minn. / St. Louis Park) for a 63-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 15-0.

The Tommie defense was dominant in the opening quarter, holding the Hatters to minus-four rushing yards and zero first downs.

Second Quarter: The graduate senior connected with Luke Schuler (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) for a 30-yard touchdown, his second scoring pass of 25+ yards in the game and made history along the way. Peters became the first quarterback of the Division I era to throw for more than 200 yards in a half, finishing the second quarter with 240 yards and a 203.6 first-half QBR. He also delivered one of the most efficient halves in Tommie football history, completing 18 of 21 pass attempts with two touchdowns and one interception.

Third Quarter: There were touchdowns and field goals aplenty in the third quarter, as St. Thomas extended its lead to 32-3. A good, old-fashioned tush push accounted for the Tommies touchdown early in the quarter, and a 21-yard field goal from Ben Hoiland (North Oaks, Minn. / Mounds View) accounted for the 32 St. Thomas points. Stetson eventually did crack the zero on the scoreboard, converting a 35-yard field goal attempt midway through the third.

Fourth Quarter: St. Thomas kicked off the fourth quarter with a pick-six courtesy of Logan Cassady (Truro, Iowa / Interstate 35 High). From that point on, the Tommies kept rolling. The Hatters added their first touchdown late, but it wasn't nearly enough to overcome the deficit, as St. Thomas cruised to a 52-10 victory.

TOMMIE TIDBITS:

  • Andy Peters (Boise, Idaho / Timberline) made history Saturday afternoon, breaking the Division I era program record for single-game passing yards with 292. He completed 22 of 28 pass attempts, accounted for four of the team's six touchdowns, and rushed for 80 yards.
  • Tyson Schilling (St. Paul, Minn. / Cretin-Derham Hall) recorded a career-high 101 receiving yards and a touchdown in the win.
  • Nash Tichy (Orono, Minn. / Orono) led the defense with eight tackles.

UP NEXT:
St. Thomas will return to O'Shaughnessy Stadium for its next PFL contest, as the Tommies host Marist on Saturday, November 1. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in St. Paul, Minnesota. The game will mark head coach Glenn Caruso's 200th with the program.
