Five Tommies record multi-hit games in win over Mavericks

ST. PAUL, Minn. – After falling in two two-run games to open the series, St. Thomas completed its weekend against Omaha with a walk-off win over the Mavericks.

Game One – L, 12-10
St. Thomas came out in game one with an early lead, scoring four runs over the first two innings. However, the Omaha Mavericks scored 11 runs in the following four innings to take the 11-5 lead. The Tommies' ninth-inning comeback attempt fell short, ultimately falling to Omaha by a score of 12-10.

All but one Tommie starter recorded a hit in the first game of the doubleheader, led by Joe Roder and Zan Von Schlegell who each tallied three.

In the bottom of the final inning, freshman, Tanner Recchio recorded his first collegiate home run, recording three RBIs to close the Mavericks' lead to two runs, but the comeback bid was not enough.

Gottschalk tied his season-high, recording four RBIs for the second time in Purple.

The St. Thomas pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts in game one.

Game Two – W, 9-8
In the back-and-forth game two, all but two innings were scoreless between the two squads.

Leading off the bottom of the third, Joe Roder recorded his first triple of the season. A sacrifice fly from Matthew Maulik brought in Roder, as the Tommies took their first lead of the game. Extending the Purple lead, Joe Vos tallied an RBI single putting St. Thomas up 4-2 to end the third inning.

Omaha evened the score in the top of the fourth, retaking the 6-4 lead once again in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the inning and with his second home run of the season, Brigs Richartz brought St. Thomas within a run of the Mavericks.

After a scoreless sixth inning, Max Moris recorded the second triple of the game for Purple, driving home two Tommies to put St. Thomas back on top 7-6.

The Tommies went into the final inning down by one run. With the bases loaded, Brigs Richartz recorded his fourth hit of the game for a walk-off single to lift the Tommies over Omaha.

Devon Schewe, Kolby Gartner, and Carl Cano (1-1) combined for 10 strikeouts in the final game of the series.
