Iowa separates late in win over Tommies

After scoring five runs in the opening frame, the Tommies fall 17-11 to the Hawkeyes
IOWA CITY, Iowa – After scoring five runs in the opening inning, the St. Thomas baseball team fell to the Hawkeyes in a midweek contest at Duane Banks Field.
Bases loaded, the Tommies recorded three straight hits to take an early 5-0 lead over the Hawkeyes in the opening frame. Joe Roder, Matthew Maulik and Brigs Richartz recorded first inning RBIs, led by Maulik who recorded a bases-clearing triple for the Purple.
After two scoreless innings, Iowa scored six runs in the bottom of the third to gain the lead over St. Thomas. The Tommies quickly regained the lead after four straight hits to begin the fourth inning.
However, the Hawkeyes posted another six-run inning, once again taking the lead in the sixth. Allowing three runs the remainder of the game, Iowa ultimately defeated St. Thomas 17-11 on its home field.
Five Tommies recorded multi-hit games, while Roder, Ben Vujovich and Maulik combined for seven RBIs.
Marlin Sejnoha made his first appearance for the Tommies, recording his first collegiate strikeout.
