The Tommies climbed one place in the standings after a 15-stroke improvement down 294 from 309 in round two of three in South Carolina.
PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – St. Thomas Women's Golf did not improve many places in the standings, but they did have the most-improved round of teams in front of them and have positioned themselves five strokes out of the top-10 with 18 holes still to come on Wednesday at the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate.
The Tommies put together a round of 294 (+10), bested only by six teams on the second day to bring their two-round tally to 603 (+35), 12th place of the 19 teams competing. St. Thomas was led by Emma Davies' 70 (-1), she is the only Tommie to shoot at par or below through this week's competition with one round still to come.
Davies improved on her first round by 11 strokes and is in a Tommie tie for 44th place with both Kathryn VanArragon and Isabelle Lynch at 151 (+9). Her performance bumped her up a staggering 45 places as she was one of eight golfers to shoot below par on day two. The sophomore began her day on the back nine where she birdied the 15th and made par on every other hole. Her only blemish on the scoresheet was a bogey on the 7th hole, but she quickly followed up with a two-stroke birdie on her final hole of the day.
VanArragon and Lynch matched their nearly identical rounds yesterday by each shooting 74 (+3) today, a three-stroke improvement for each. Lynch got to the 74 with one extra bogey and birdie as both golfers recorded one double bogey. Despite their identical scores, they only shot the exact same score on seven of the day's 18 holes.
The final scoring Tommie was Niki Reineke who, too, improved on her first round. She dropped two strokes for a 76 (+5) on day two and rose two spots in the standings up to a tie for 62nd place. Caroline Monty shot an 84 (+13) to drop into a tie for 92nd.
