PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – It was a case of the Mondays for the University of St. Thomas women's golf team. The Tommies played their first round at the Golfweek Intercollegiate on Monday, closing at +25 (309) to finish day one in 13th place as a team. Kathryn VanArragon (Blaine, Minn. / Blaine), Isabelle Lynch (Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) and Caroline Monty (Stillwater, Minn. / Stillwater) were the top individual finishers for the St. Thomas, as the trio all shot a 77 to finish in the three-way tie for 51st at the conclusion of Monday's round.
DAY ONE RESULTS
The Tommies put together strong performances on the front nine, with Lynch closing the first nine holes with a 34. She was the lone St. Thomas student-athlete to shoot under pay Monday, as she finished the front nine at -1. Monty was not far behind, shooting 37 on the front nine holes to close at +2, while VanArragon shot +3 to open the day. The Tommies No. 2 golfer Nicole Reineke (Chaska, Minn. / Chaska) and No. 4 golfer Emma Davies (Eden Prairie, Minn. / Eden Prairie) both shot 39 on the opening nine holes to finish at +4.
The back nine did not treat St. Thomas kindly, though Reineke and VanArragon either matched their score from the front nine or dropped strokes. After shooting +3 on the front nine, VanArragon birdied 11, 14 and 15 and looked to make a move up the tournament's leaderboard. However, bogies on 16 and 18 resulted in a score of 77 for the first year, putting her in the tie for 51st at +6. Lynch shot 43 on the back nine holes and Monty a 40, as both, like VanArragon, closed the day at +6 with a score of 77.
Reineke dropped a stroke from the front nine to the back, closing with a 78 to finish at +8. Davies ended her day at +10.
