Keller breaks pentathlon record to highlight successful M City Classic

Piehl sets program’s second best 200m as one of five men’s top 10 marks
MINNEAPOLIS -- In a repeat of last year's season-opener, Olivia Keller again broke the St. Thomas women's program record in the pentathlon at the M City Classic in Minneapolis on Friday afternoon. The junior's record was one of 19 top-10 marks set on the day between both men's and women's along with four event wins for the Tommies.
KELLER'S DOMINANT PENTATHLON
Keller shattered her previous best to win the pentathlon with a school-record score of 3,751, improving on her former mark of 3,365. Along the way, Keller achieved four program top-10 marks:
- 60-Meter Hurdles: 8.86 seconds (3rd all-time)
- Long Jump: 5.79m (3rd all-time)
- High Jump: 1.61m (T-10th all-time)
PIEHL NOTCHES WIN, TOP TWO RECORD
Junior Mitchell Piehl claimed victory in the men's 200m dash, clocking 21.88 seconds—the second-fastest time in St. Thomas history. Piehl also impressed in the 60m dash prelims with a time of 6.94 seconds, ranking eighth all-time.
MEN'S 60M DEPTH
The Tommies showcased depth in the men's 60m dash, securing three top-10 program marks:
- Freshman Riddik Collier: 6.91 seconds (6th all-time), finishing fifth.
- Sophomore Johnny Bezdicek: 6.92 seconds (7th all-time), placing sixth.
- Piehl: 6.94 seconds (8th all-time), placing seventh.
Freshman Braeden Brouwer finished sixth in the 60m hurdles in 8.47, the 10th fastest time in St. Thomas history.
LIEBL AND FLEEK EXCEL IN THE PENTATHLON
Senior Josie Liebl improved her personal record to 3,529 points, finishing sixth in the pentathlon. Her highlights included:
- 60-Meter Hurdles: 8.90 seconds (4th all-time)
- High Jump: 1.61m (T-10th all-time)
Junior Brianna Fleek, competing in her first career pentathlon, tallied 3,176 points to rank seventh in program history, highlighted by a 5.44m long jump, which ranks seventh all-time.
WOMEN'S SPRINTS IMPRESS
Freshman Danika Apple tied for second in program history in the 60m dash, finishing second overall in 7.65 seconds. Apple also placed third in the 200m dash with a time of 25.61 seconds, ranking seventh all-time.
- Sophomore Rebecca Randleman: Won the 200m (25.50)
- Junior Alexis Pratt: Second in the 200m (25.53) and fourth in the 60m (7.79)
In the 60m dash prelims:
- Senior Hannah Cornelius: 7.81 seconds (5th all-time), finished sixth in finals.
- Randleman: 7.87 seconds (T-8th all-time), finished seventh in finals.
FIELD EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
- Olivia Passeri: Set a personal best in the pole vault at 3.41m, now eighth all-time, finishing fourth.
- Ava Wilber: Achieved a personal best in the long jump at 5.38m, tying for eighth all-time, and finished third.

St. Thomas will take a month-long break from competition before returning to action Jan. 17 with the St. Thomas Invitational at the AARC Fieldhouse.
