Softball announces 2025 schedule

Five conference champions, two nationally ranked programs, and the reigning National Champion Oklahoma Sooners headline the Tommies’ 2025 slate
ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of St. Thomas Softball has announced its 2025 schedule, a 52-game well-rounded and competitive slate that boasts games with high-end talent from across the country. The Purple will participate in six early-season non-conference tournaments and five non-conference series before their 18-game Summit League schedule.
The Tommies play 11 games at South Field, featuring a home-and-home battle against non-conference foe Green Bay (9-38, 5-19 Horizon). They also travel back to Madison, Wisconsin for a doubleheader with the Wisconsin Badgers (21-31, 8-15 BIG 10) and to Iowa City for a doubleheader against the Iowa Hawkeyes (18-28, 6-17 BIG 10). The Purple will squeeze in one game against the Creighton BlueJays (36-22, 16-8 Big East) after their conference opening series with Omaha.
St. Thomas adds five freshmen to a team that secured an 8-9 Summit League record while going 16-34 overall in 2024. During their third season at the DI level, the Tommies finished in third place during the regular season with a season-highlight victory over Omaha 5-3 on April 5th to end the Mavericks' historic 16-game win streak. St. Thomas also swept the South Dakota Coyotes.
Returning for the Purple, are 19 players from last season's campaign, including all of the program-record five players who were named to an All-Summit League Team. Their three selections to the First-Team were second only to the regular season champion South Dakota State Jackrabbits and included Laken Lienhard, Kaitlyn Raymond, and Avery Wukawitz. Qualifying for the Second-Team were Ella Cook and Cassidy Carby.
The makeup of the Tommie roster includes, five pitchers, four catchers, eight infielders, and seven outfielders.
The 2024 schedule gets started on Feb. 7 as the Tommies return to the DePaul Dome Tournament in Rosemont, Ill. for five games, first with Butler University (23-29, 11-13 Big East) and the hosting Blue Demons of DePaul (9-38, 4-20 Big East). The following day, the Toms will play Green Bay for their first of five scheduled games throughout the season followed by a rematch with DePaul. The Toms' first tournament will be rounded out with one game on Sunday, Feb. 9 against Detroit Mercy (6-38, 5-18 Horizon).
One week later, the Tommies head to a tournament hosted by a Texas State team that finished nationally ranked at the conclusion of 2024 after winning the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Toms will battle the Bobcats (47-15, 18-6 Sun Belt) on Feb.14. After the tournament opener, the Toms will play both New Mexico (16-38, 8-14 Mountain West) and Stephen F. Austin (16-39, 9-17 WAC) twice to finish out the weekend.
The Toms return to the Lone Star State a week later with the UTSA tournament from Feb. 21-23. Sam Houston (20-30, 8-15 CUSA) is on the schedule twice while St. Thomas will play Michigan State (21-30, 7-16 BIG 10), UTSA (15-42, 5-22 American), and Akron (23-29, 11-14 MAC) each one time.
Next up, the Tommies play a little closer to home with five games at the Gopher Indoor Classic at US Bank Stadium hosted by the University of Minnesota on Feb. 28-Mar. 2. St. Thomas will matchup with the regular season and MAC tournament champion Miami Redhawks (49-9, 26-1 MAC) twice. They will also play Wagner College (8-30, 3-18 NEC) two times before finishing off the weekend with a Sunday afternoon game against the Gophers (28-25, 13-10 BIG 10).
The grind of the early-season schedule continues with another weekend tournament, but this one only includes three games against one team. The Tommies travel down to Kansas City to play three against the Drake Bulldogs (23-26, 11-13 MVC) from Mar. 8-9.
Shortly after, they play the Iowa Hawkeyes on March 12 before beginning Summit League Play with the tournament champion Omaha Mavericks (43-15, 14-4 Summit) on the road (Mar. 22-23). St. Thomas makes a pitstop for one game against Creighton on the 24th before heading back to St. Paul. After a short rest in the Twin Cities, the Toms go back on the road for a doubleheader against the Green Bay Phoenix on Mar. 26.
The Toms are thrust back into conference play with a road series against South Dakota (23-30, 7-10 Summit) in Vermillion on Mar. 29-30.
St. Thomas' 39-road game start to the season concludes with one game against the reigning National Champion Oklahoma Sooners (59-7, 22-5 BIG 12) and Central Florida (31-25, 12-15 BIG 12) in Norman, Oklahoma on April 4-5 and two games against the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison on April 8.
Of their final 14 games, the Tommies will play at the friendly confines of South Field 11 times. Three games against the reigning regular season Summit League champion South Dakota State Jackrabbits (33-22, 14-2 Summit) (April 12-13), two against Green Bay on April 15, three against Kansas City (23-31, 8-10 Summit) (April 26-27), and three against North Dakota State (17-37, 4-14 Summit) to conclude the season on May 3-4.
Three games against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks (14-42, 6-12 Summit), the final road series of the calendar, splits the middle of the homestand on April 18-19.
In-all, the Tommies will play a 52-game slate in 2025, featuring two teams that finished in the final Top-25 poll in 2024 (Oklahoma and Texas State) and seven teams in the RPI-100 (Texas State, Miami, Minnesota, Omaha, Oklahoma, Central Florida, and South Dakota State).
