The Tommies welcome the Lions to Saint Thomas Ice Arena

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team welcomes the Lindenwood Lions for a non-conference weekend series.  Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7 and 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8 at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.

Last Weekend Recap
The Tommies hosted #2 Ohio State in a WCHA weekend series.  
 
On Friday, St. Thomas fell to the Buckeyes 5-1. Madison Brown scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season for the Purple, as Dani Strom tallied 30 saves.
 
On Saturday, Strom shutout the Buckeyes in regulation time, sending the game into overtime knotted at 0-0. In the overtime loss, Strom finished the game totaling career-high 39 saves, posting a .975 SV% in the series finale.

Two Tommies have earned WCHA Weekly honors to start the season:

Scouting the Lions
The Lindenwood Lions (1-8-1, 1-1-0 AHA) are led by Head Coach Taylor Wasylk in her second season with the program. In the first year under Coach Wasylk, the Lions won a program record of 11 games.
 
Senior goaltender Anna LaRose earned AHA Goaltender of the week after her performance against Mercyhurst last weekend. LaRose posted a 1-1-0 record, totaling 75 saves for a.962 SV% in the weekend series.
 
History against the Lions
The Tommies hold a 4-2 overall record against Lindenwood, including a 2-0 record at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.
 
Last October, the Tommies swept the Lions at home by scores of 4-3 and 7-2.
 
The seven-goal contest against Lindenwood marked the second time in program history St. Thomas totaled seven-goals in a game. The Tommies have scored a program record of seven goals three-times in the past two season:
  • 7-2 win vs Franklin Pierce (9/29/24)
  • 7-2 win vs Lindenwood (10/7/23),
  • 7-0 win vs Post (10/4/24)

WCHA Pre-Season Poll
Tommie Women's Hockey was picked to finish sixth in the eight-team WCHA preseason poll, voted on by league head coaches.

Last season's national runner-up Wisconsin was selected among league head coaches to win the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's 2024-25 regular season title. The top four teams in the poll qualified for the NCAA Tournament last year.
 
Record Setters
Last season, the Tommies set a DI era scoring record, totaling seven goals in a single game twice this season. 17 skaters scored goals for the Tommies, led by Ella Boerger, who found the back of the net 11 times. Boerger's 11 goals also set a record of goals scored in a single season.
 
In 37 games played, Boerger (11G, 13A – 24P), Bartz (10G, 13A – 23P), Nicole Vallario (5G, 10A – 15P), and Maddie Brown (6G, 8A - 14P) all passed the DI single season record in points scored for the Tommies.  The previous record was 13 total points set by Maddy Clough (2022-23 season).
 
Bartz, Boerger, Vallario and Maddy Clough also surpassed the single season record in assists (previously 8), and Bartz tied record for power play goals scored in a single season (3).  
 
Schedule Talk    
The Tommies hosted the reigning National Champions, Ohio State from Nov. 1-2. St. Thomas will remain at home the next weekend playing Lindenwood, before three consecutive road trips to Bemidji State, Wisconsin and Nashville.
 
The Tommies travel to Tennessee to play in the Smashville Showcase over Thanksgiving weekend. St. Thomas is set to play Clarkson on Nov. 29 and Penn State or Merrimack the following day. The Smashville Showcase will mark the final non-conference games of the season, as St. Thomas will compete against WCHA opponents the remainder of the season.
 
St. Thomas ends the first half of the season hosting Minnesota Dec. 6-7, and opens the second half at Ridder Arena from Jan. 10-11. The Tommies wrap up the regular season with a home-and-home series against Minnesota State, playing the series finale at Saint Thomas Ice Arena on Feb. 22.
