BEMIDJI, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's hockey team faced the Bemidji State Beavers in game two of the weekend series. Holding a three-goal lead through the first two periods, Bemidji State (3-10-1, 2-8-0 WCHA) edged St.  Thomas (5-7-1, 2-6-1 WCHA) by a score of 4-3 in the series finale.

RECAP
Bemidji State opened scoring less than a minute into the first period on Saturday afternoon. Doubling the lead, the Beavers added their second of the game with 13:47 to play in the frame. Bemidji State then tallied a goal late in the first period, taking the 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

After a scoreless 14 minutes in period two, Maddie Jurgensen posted St. Thomas' first of the afternoon, scoring her second of the season off a rebound from Nora Sauer.

However, Bemidji State regained its three-goal lead, scoring just two minutes later. While St. Thomas held the advantage in shots on goal through 40 minutes, the Beavers went into the second intermission with a 4-1 lead.

The Tommies controlled faceoffs 21-9 through two periods, and 30-18 in today's game, led by Rylee Bartz who won 12 draws.

Near the midpoint of the final frame, Ella Boerger found the back of the net for the first time this season, cutting the Beaver's lead to two goals. Boerger's goal was assisted by freshmen Ilsa Lindaman and Lauren Karl, marking Karl's first collegiate point.

With just over six minutes to play in regulation, Bemidji State was called for back-to-back penalties, and St. Thomas went on the 5-on-3 advantage. Capitalizing on the opportunity, Lauren Stenslie scored her third of the season to make it a one-goal game with 5:37 to play.

The Tommies called Maggie Malecha to the bench, playing with an extra skater with two minutes remaining in the period. Unable to find the equalizer, Bemidji State defeated St. Thomas 4-3 in the series finale.

Making her first start in net this season, Malecha totaled 21 saves through 58 minutes on Saturday afternoon.
