Women’s Hockey travels to Wisconsin for series against top-ranked Badgers

The Tommies are set to play #1 Wisconsin at LaBahn Arena

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team is on the road traveling to Madison, Wis. for a conference series against the top-ranked Badgers. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22 and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23 at LaBahn Arena.

Last Weekend Recap
St. Thomas women's hockey traveled to Bemidji for a series against the Beavers. The Tommies fell in both games to Bemidji State at the Sanford Center.

Making her first start in net this season, Malecha totaled 21 saves through 58 minutes on Saturday afternoon.  

Near the midpoint of the final frame in game two, Ella Boerger found the back of the net for the first time this season. Boerger's goal was assisted by freshmen Ilsa Lindaman and Lauren Karl, marking Karl's first collegiate point.

Scouting the Badgers
Last weekend, #1 Wisconsin split the weekend series with #2 Ohio State, falling for the first time this 2024-25 campaign.

The top-ranked Wisconsin Badgers lead the nation in goals (81) and winning percentage (.929).
 
Fifth-year forward Casey O'Brien leads the nation in points (29) and assists (21), as Laila Edwards ranks first in goals scored (13).
 
History against the Badgers
The Badgers hold a 13-0 record against the Tommies, including a 6-0 record at LaBahn Arena.

WCHA Pre-Season Poll
Tommie Women's Hockey was picked to finish sixth in the eight-team WCHA preseason poll, voted on by league head coaches.

Last season's national runner-up Wisconsin was selected among league head coaches to win the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's 2024-25 regular season title. The top four teams in the poll qualified for the NCAA Tournament last year.
 
Record Setters
Last season, the Tommies set a DI era scoring record, totaling seven goals in a single game twice this season. 17 skaters scored goals for the Tommies, led by Ella Boerger, who found the back of the net 11 times. Boerger's 11 goals also set a record of goals scored in a single season.
 
In 37 games played, Boerger (11G, 13A – 24P), Bartz (10G, 13A – 23P), Nicole Vallario (5G, 10A – 15P), and Maddie Brown (6G, 8A - 14P) all passed the DI single season record in points scored for the Tommies.  The previous record was 13 total points set by Maddy Clough (2022-23 season).
 
Bartz, Boerger, Vallario and Maddy Clough also surpassed the single season record in assists (previously 8), and Bartz tied record for power play goals scored in a single season (3). 
 
Schedule Talk    
The Tommies travel to Tennessee to play in the Smashville Showcase over Thanksgiving weekend. St. Thomas is set to play Clarkson on Nov. 29 and Penn State or Merrimack the following day. The Smashville Showcase will mark the final non-conference games of the season, as St. Thomas will compete against WCHA opponents the remainder of the season.
 
St. Thomas ends the first half of the season hosting Minnesota Dec. 6-7, and opens the second half at Ridder Arena from Jan. 10-11. The Tommies wrap up the regular season with a home-and-home series against Minnesota State, playing the series finale at Saint Thomas Ice Arena on Feb. 22.
