Tommies complete comeback for 7-5 win to seal series at Bears

GREELEY, Colo. -- St. Thomas Baseball scored seven straight runs to secure a 7-5 comeback win to take the series at Northern Colorado Sunday in Greeley, Colo.
The Tommies trailed 5-0 after the first three innings after getting just three runners on base. Ben Vujovich led off the top of the fifth inning with a single that was followed by a bunt hit to put two runners on base. Tanner Marsh came up with a two-RBI double before Brigs Richartz hit an RBI single to left field to cut the Bears lead to two, 5-3.
Freshman Nolan Kemp started the game and threw the first 3.0 innings but was a no decision. Tucker Huhn, Bryce Leedle and Duke Coborn combined to throw the final 6.0 innings of scoreless ball. Coborn (1-2) earned the win after throwing the final 3.0 innings with five strikeouts and four hits allowed.
Trailing 5-3 heading into the top of the ninth inning, Dylan O'Connell led off with a single up the middle while Ben Vujovich singled and Ben Taxdahl was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. A passed ball brought the deficit to one while a Northern Colorado error gave St. Thomas the lead as two runs scored. A second UNC error in the ninth extended the Purple lead to 7-5.
The Tommies totaled 10 hits as three players recorded multiple hits. Vujovich went 2-of-4 from the plate with two runs scored while Marsh finished with one hit, two RBI and two runs scored.
St. Thomas returns to action Monday, April 10 with a 2 p.m. (CT) first pitch at Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo.
