Women’s Hockey faces Minnesota State in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women’s Face-off Classic

The Tommies are set to play the Mavericks in Hall of Fame Game at Maple Grove Ice Arena
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's hockey team is set to play in the US Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women's Face-off Classic. The Tommies travel Maple Grove, Minn. to face the Mavericks in a non-conference game. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9th at Maple Grove Ice Arena.
The game raises awareness for the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum in Eveleth, Minnesota and showcases women's college hockey at its highest level to the fans including young girls who may aspire to play hockey.

History against the Mavericks
The Mavericks hold an 8-0 record against the Tommies. Last season, Tommies fell to the Mavericks by margins of two, 2-0 at home (Oct. 21 and Nov. 20) and 3-1 on the road at the Mayo Clinc HSEC (Oct. 20 and Nov. 19).
In their first season of Division the Tommies played against Minnesota State in the Hockey Day Minnesota contest in Mankato, taking place on Jan. 23rd, 2022.
Last Weekend Recap
Last weekend, The St. Thomas Women's Hockey played their first game on the road this season against Minnesota-Duluth. St. Thomas fell to the Bulldogs, 3-1 on Friday night and 4-0 on Saturday at Amsoil Arena.
Allie Monrean scored the Tommies' lone goal of the weekend.
Maggie Malecha played in game one, and finished the night stopping 32 of 35 shots on goal in the Tommies 3-1 conference loss.
In game two, Olivia King stopped 25 of 29 shots, while the Tommie offense put 23 shots on goal, including 10 in the third period.
Scouting the Mavericks
The Minnesota State University Women's Hockey program (2-8-0, 0-8-0 WCHA) is led by John Harrington, who is in his ninth season of coaching the Mavericks.
The Mavericks are coming off a home-and-home series against Minnesota. Minnesota State fell to the Gophers 3-1 and 2-1 in the weekend series.
Senior, Jamie Nelson leads the Mavericks offense totaling eight points (5G, 3A) in 10 games played. In her freshman season, Nelson was named WCHA Rookie of the Year and selected to the WCHA All-Rookie Team.
Offensive Growth
The Tommies have scored 30 goals throughout the first 12 games of the 2023-24 season, while the Purple totaled 53 through 36 games just last season.
The Purple have faced non-conference opponents Franklin Pierce and Lindenwood. In four games played, the Tommies have outshot non-conference opponents 171-54 and outscored opponents 23-9.
The Tommies have set a D-I era scoring record, totaling seven goals in a single game twice this season. 12 skaters have scored goals for the Tommies, led by freshman Ella Boerger who has found the back of the net five times.
Fresh Faces
Three first-years lead the Tommie offense in the first 10 games of the season. Rylee Bartz (3G, 7A, 10P), Ella Boerger (5G, 5A, 10P) and Cara Sajevic (4G, 2A, 6P) lead the Tommies in scoring in the early part of the season. Boerger and Sajevic have each recorded two multi-goal games, while Bartz has recorded three multi-point games.
In early October, after tallying 14 shots on goal and recording five points, Boerger earned the first WCHA honor of her career as the Rookie of the Week.
Defensively, Ellah Hause leads the team in blocked shots, blocking 24 shots in 12 games played. Hause has also recorded two goals and one assist, tallying her first goal in first game played on Sep. 29th against Franklin Pierce.

The Tommies schedule is jam packed with tough competition, both in nonconference and Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play. In total, St. Thomas will play 35 games throughout the year, including 10 home games in the first five weekends of the season.
The Tommies with be road warriors during the back half of the season, playing 10 of their final 14 games away from the comforts of Mendota Heights, Minnesota. St. Thomas will open 2024 with three consecutive road games against the Badgers and Huskies before returning home to home St. Cloud State on January 20. The Tommies with also host Minnesota-Duluth (February 9-10) and the Mavericks (February 24) in the final month of the regular season.
