Freshman, Nicole Reineke’s tournament victory is the first in DI program history for the Tommies. She was the only golfer out of 69 to put together a round below par.

The final 18 holes of the Big O Classic, hosted by Creighton University, were canceled due to rain and lightning in the area.

As decided on by the coaches participating in the tournament, the results of the tournament reverted to the end of 36 holes.

OMAHA, Neb. – The University of St. Thomas women's golf team are returning home to St. Paul with some hardware after taking both the individual and team titles from a field of 12 teams and 69 athletes at the Big O Classic.

The Tommies took control of the tournament from the very start and never let up, ultimately defeating second place South Dakota State by 11 strokes.

St. Thomas completed the opening 18 with a tournament-best 298 and followed it up with a tournament second-best 301 during the second round. They were the only team to finish with a score below 600 with their total coming in at 599.

RECAP
Stood atop the leader board were two St. Thomas freshmen, Nicole Reineke and Kathryn VanArragon.

Nicole Reineke carded a +1 to lead all competitors while Kathryn VanArragon finished closely behind in second with a +3.

Reineke's day started out incredibly with a five-birdie round that ended up being the only round under par in the tournament at one under. Her second round was impressive as well, she came in at two strokes over par to secure the individual crown.

Her freshman counterpart VanArragon finished even in the first round and gave up three strokes in the second to give her one stroke up on a three-way tie for third place.

Of the golfers tied for third was St. Thomas sophomore Emma Davies who absolutely rallied in the second round with three birdies in the final six holes to secure a round score of +1.

Isabelle Lynch also finished in the top-10 tied for ninth at +7.

QUOTABLES
Coach Katie Hanneman on her team's hot start
"I am truly proud of this team. It was a very strong field made up of 12 different programs that included two Summit League teams. It was a great win for the team with outstanding performances by our freshmen. Reineke recorded the only under par round of the event and she deserved that win."
