Women’s Hockey falls to Buckeyes in game two of weekend series, 7-1

Monrean scores lone goal of the afternoon for the Tommies
Mendota Heights, Minn. -- The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team fell to No. 2 Ohio State in game two of the weekend. The Buckeyes defeated the Tommies, 7-1, on Saturday afternoon.
The Tommies put 21 shots on goal, led by Ella Boerger and Cara Sajevic, who each put five on net. Graduate student, Allie Monrean scored the Tommies lone goal and her first of the season, assisted by Nicole Vallario.
Olivia King made career-high 38 saves in net tonight for the Tommies. Defensively, the Tommies blocked season-high 27 shots.
RECAP
The Ohio State offense began early in game two. The Buckeyes found their first goal of the game two minutes into period one. The rest of the period remained scoreless, as both goaltenders shut down the opposing offensive opportunities. The Tommies drew two penalties, earning four minutes on the man advantage, but could not convert with the extra skater. The Buckeyes totaled 15 shots on goals and the Tommies put nine on net.
The second frame began, and Ohio State added two goals to their total, extending their lead to 3-0. The Tommies responded just 13 seconds after the Buckeyes' third goal of the afternoon. Allie Monrean opened scoring for the Tommies deflecting a shot that Nicole Vallario took from the point. Late in the period, the Buckeyes tallied their fourth of the afternoon and went into the second intermission with a 4-1 lead.
Third period remained scoreless until the Buckeyes recorded their fifth goal with seven minutes remaining in the game. The Buckeyes added two more goals to extend their lead and defeat the Tommies 7-1.
