Second period action began with an early goal by Murphy, netting her third of the game. Murphy's hattrick was followed soon after by a powerplay goal for the Gophers. The Tommies responded with offensive pressure, attempting five shots in the minutes following the Minnesota goal. One of the Tommies' best offensive chances of the night came when Mary Zavoral rang one off the cross bar in the final minutes of the period two. However, the second period ended with a Tommie power play and four shots on goal, but still scoreless for the Purple.
Minnesota began the third period with a goal less than a minute after the puck dropped. The Gophers scored their eighth and final goal in the last minute of the final frame. The Tommies added eight shots on goal during the third period and finished with 27 on the night. St. Thomas ultimately fell 8-0 at the Xcel Energy Center against the Golden Gophers.

"As the game went on, they were just the better team and we've got some work to do. I thought we were going to win today, and I am going continue to believe that because we are still growing, and I really believe we can compete in this league. But today was not our best representation of that."
