Men's Golf finishes fifth in 14-team field at Zach Johnson Invitational

West Des Moines, Iowa - The St. Thomas Men's Golf Team finished in fifth place in the 14-team field at Zach Johnson Invitational hosted by Drake. Individually, three Tommies finished in the top-20.
"I'm proud of our guys and how we improved with each round in this meet," said Head Coach Matt Rachey. "Matt Raab consistently improved each round and was able to shave another four strokes off his round today to finish in 11th place was an impressive feat. As a whole, I'm thrilled with the improvements all of our guys made today."
The Tommies as a team improved each of the three rounds of the meet with scores of 298, 295, and then posted a 10-stroke improvement in the third and final round finishing with a score of 285 (+26).
Individually, St. Thomas had three golfers in the top-20 led by the senior duo of Mathew Raab (11th place, 74, 72, 68, 214) who finished one stroke over par and Matthew Garside (17th, 75, 72, 71, 218) who finished five strokes over par. Junior Glavine Schugel (tied-18th, 75, 70, 74, 219), junior Matt Armstrong (tied-50th, 74, 81, 75, 230) and freshman Owen Rexing (tied-60th, 78, 82, 72, 232) also competed for the Tommies.
The Tommies return to action Oct. 3-4 at the Big-O Classic in Elkhorn, Neb.
