Tommies fight strong winds in 2-1 win over Golden Eagles
9/25/2022 2:57:00 PM | Women's Soccer
St. Paul, Minn. – St. Thomas Women's Soccer fought against Oral Roberts and strong wind conditions, prevailing with a 2-1 win Sunday afternoon at South Field in St. Paul, Minn.
St. Thomas (4-2-3) tied its win total from the 2021 season as all of Sunday's goals were scored in the first half. Freshman McKenna Lehman netted the first St. Thomas goal, marking her second goal of the season in as many games, in the sixth minute off an assist from sophomore Mariah Nguyen.
Nguyen added the game-winning goal less than six minutes later off a deflection from an ORU defender. Nguyen hit the top right of the goal to push the Tommie lead to 2-0.
Sophomore Annie Bantner started and played all 90 minutes in the net, totaling four saves. After facing one shot on goal in the first half, Bantner recorded four saves in the second half with winds pushing towards the St. Thomas goal.
St. Thomas takes to the road for its next week of action, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 27 with the postponed finale versus Green Bay. The previous game was postponed due to lightning at the 53rd minute with the Tommies ahead, 2-0.
The Purple will then travel to face North Dakota State Sept. 30 in Fargo, N.D., and North Dakota Oct. 2 in Grand Forks, N.D.
