Men's Soccer sharp at home, wins conference opener

St. Paul, Minn. - Freshman Carver Tierney and sophomore Faris Colic scored first-half goals and keeper Tucker Mann recorded his first Division I victory as Tommie Men's Soccer scored a 2-0 home win over Eastern Illinois at South Field.
The Purple (2-6-1 overall, 1-0 Summit) took their first home win and first conference victory of 2022.
Tierney scored his second goal of the season, in the 26th minute, assisted by Jacek Nickowski. Colic scored in the 44th minute, his first goal of the season, assisted by Dennis Mensah, Jr.
Mann had four saves and helped kill off seven corner kicks by EIU (1-5-1, 0-1).

Coach Jon Lowery said his team continues to make positive strides. "The one thing that this group has to continually learn and adjust to is that it's day in and day out," Lowery explained. "Everyone talks about (our) transition all the time, and one of the biggest pieces is that these guys have to be mind and body ready to go every day, and with that comes a lot of challenges.
"We're growing, we're maturing and I couldn't be happier we are going to play Gonzaga on Tuesday, and then we are going to down to Oral Roberts with a 1-0 record in the conference and see how far we can go in the Summit (League)."
Next Up
St. Thomas is home Tuesday for its final non-conference game of the season against Gonzaga (4 p.m.). Last season in a game at Gonzaga, the Toms allowed goals in the 52nd and 84th minutes and lost 2-0 to the Zags.
