Women make best of cold, windy day for Tomcat T&F

St. Paul, Minn. - Senior Olivia Moll took second in a field of 41 runners in the 5,000 meters with a career-best time by nine seconds, 17:24.70, to lead St. Thomas Women's Track and Field athletes Wednesday evening at the Tomcat Twilight meet at O'Shaughnessy Stadium.
Athletes from 20 colleges and universities were represented in the non-team scored competition. The field included competitors from scholarship programs Minnesota, South Dakota State, St. Thomas, Minnesota State, Bemidji State and Concordia University.
Moll's time also ranks in the top five in the Summit League so far this outdoor season. Freshman Molly Desotell placed sixth in the 5,000 with a top-10 Summit time of 17:49.02.
Freshman Maggie Olejnik tied for first in the long jump in a collegiate-best mark of 17-5 1-2.
Olivia Lemke placed sixth in the pole vault in a career-best 11-3 1-2.
Molly Reighard (63.07) and Hailey Hindt (63.71) placed 1-3 in the 400 hurdles, with both recording a season-best time. They also ran on the runner-up 4x100 relay with Caroline Anderson and Hannah Cornelius.
Taynian Walgrave won both the 100 hurdles (14.88) and 200 dash (25.75).
Freshman Hailey Shimon took sixth in the discus in a season-best 128-9.
Anderson placed fourth in the high jump (5-1).
Megan Gehrke placed fourth in the shot put (41-1).
Carly Scheuerman placed sixth in the 800 (2:21.15).
Men's T&F Highlights
Redshirt junior Biel Wiel took 55 seconds off his career best in the 5,000 meters in a fourth-place finish in a field of 25 runners to lead St. Thomas Men's Track and Field athletes
Wiel clocked 14:46.46, eight seconds ahead of teammate Morey Smith, who placed fifth in 14:54, a 44-second personal best for the 12.5-lap race. Both performances move into the top 10 on the Summit League outdoor season list. Charles Caven placed seventh in 15:03.
In other men's highlights:
Erik Anderson had a career-best time of 15.02 for fourth place in the 110 hurdles. He also placed third in the 400 hurdles (57.80).
Freshman Jack Rosner led late in the 400 hurdles race, fell after hitting the final hurdle, but bounced up to his feet and finished in second place (57.37).
Nate Raddatz (162-5) led a 1-2-3 Tommie finish in the javelin. Josh Dolezal (155-9) and Matt Escher (148-2) placed 2-3.
Parker Feuerborn took second in the hammer throw (189-9).
Freshman Gary Afram won the 100 dash (10.81) and joined Nate Carlin, Alec Martzahl and Eric Douville on the winning 4x100 relay (42.36).
Douville won the 200 dash (21.91).
Maxwell Gifford placed third in the 800 (1:57.46).
Freshman Isaiah Hopf took third in the long jump (21-11 1-2).
John Morrison placed fifth in the 1,500 (4:09.11).
Carter Maack (15.17) and Bryan Minor (15.41) placed 5-7 in the 110 hurdles.
Grady Clem took fourth in the high jump (6-4 3-4).
