Elkhorn, Neb. - St. Thomas women's golf played 36 holes on Monday to open the Stampede at the Creek. St. Thomas finished day one in eighth place after shooting 657 as a unit.

"We are improving at every single event that we play," said Head Coach Katie Hanneman. "Getting four scores in the 70s is exactly what we needed. I'm proud of the effort the girls have to go out and compete and strive for improvement every time we are on the course."

Sophomore Paige O'Neal leads the Purple, scoring an 82 in the first round and a 79 in the second round. O'Neal is tied for 35th overall entering the final day of the competition.

Freshman Isabelle Lynch shot a 77 in her first round, one stroke higher than her collegiate best 76. She finished the first two rounds with a score of 162 and is tied for 39th.

As a team, St. Thomas recorded 68 pars and six birdies on the first day of competition.

The Tommies conclude play at the Stampede at the Creek on Tuesday with 18 holes.
