Kathryn VanArragon claims third title with emphatic individual performance
GREELEY, Colo. – St. Thomas women's golf put together a smashing start to the 2026-27 season, winning its fifth team title of the Division I era at the Northern Colorado Bear Brawl at Greeley Country Club. Kathryn VanArragon led the charge for the Tommies with her third career individual title.
The Tommies won by a 16-stroke margin over the six-team field. St. Thomas opened the tournament with its best round of the week, a 285 (+1), then rebounded from a tough second round to shoot 288 (+4) in the final round on day two. The win is the Tommies' first since October 15, 2024, at the Tommie Invite.
VanArragon nearly led the competition wire-to-wire, putting together three stellar rounds that culminated in a third-round 68 (-3) and a new personal-best three-round score of 209 (-4), four strokes better than her previous mark. The senior opened her season with a birdie on the first hole, played even on the front nine, and birdied No. 13 for a one-under back nine. In the second round, she was even on both nines, offsetting her only blemish of the week — a double bogey on No. 6 — with two front-nine birdies. She battled back on the final day, following back-to-back bogeys on her second and third holes with nothing but pars and five birdies over her final 15 holes.
Amelia Morton also turned in the tournament of her career, posting a personal-best three-round score of 219 for her best finish to date, in sixth place. Morton rode a strong opening-round 72 (+1) to her first top 10 finish.
Senior Nicole Reineke came out firing in her return after missing all last season due to injury. Her first-round 67 (-4) was a collegiate personal best, and she led all Tommie scorers that day with six birdies and an eagle on No. 8. Reineke rebounded from a difficult second round to shoot a much improved 74 (+3) in the final round.
Tying Reineke for seventh place was freshman Ruby Reding, who played remarkably consistent back-to-back rounds of 72 in the second and third rounds. Reding's seventh place showing was the best finish in a collegiate debut by a Tommie since VanArragon's third-place finish in 2023. She was the second lowest-scoring Tommie in both of the final two rounds.
Rounding out the scoring was another freshman, Alyssa Raghuveer, who took a share of 27th place.
