Another battle, another close loss for Baseball, this time at Iowa

Iowa City, Iowa - Host Iowa scored three runs after two were out in the bottom of the seventh inning and held on to record a 6-5 comeback victory over St. Thomas in Monday's non-conference baseball game.
The Tommies (3-12) outhit the Hawkeyes by a 9-7 count, but saw one late-inning surge turn the game in favor of the Big Ten Conference team.
The Purple have lost six games by one run and three other contests by two runs.
Trailing 4-2, Iowa (9-7) loaded the bases with none out in the bottom of the seventh inning with the help of just one hit. The Hawks cut the lead to 4-3 on a ground out, but later got a two-out RBI single to go ahead 5-4. A wild pitch plated the eventual winning run before the Toms got an inning-ending strikeout.
St. Thomas got one run back in the top of the eighth on Kyle Halverson's double, a ground out, and Ben Vujovich's RBI ground out. Iowa stranded a runner at second in the last of the eighth inning, but the Hawks were able to close out the win by stranding St. Thomas' potential tying runner at first base in the top of the ninth with two strikeouts and a ground out.
In the third inning, the Purple tied the game at 1-1 on two-out singles by Matthew Enck, Sam Kulesa and Brigs Richartz.
In the fifth, the Toms tied the game again, at 2-2, on Max Moris' leadoff triple and a wild pitch.
St. Thomas took a 4-2 lead in the sixth inning on Halverson's single, a sac bunt, Vujovich's RBI single, a balk, and an error that let Vujovich come home from second base.
Freshman Evan Esch started for St. Thomas and allowed two runs and three hits with no walks and three strikeouts over four innings. Freshman Tucker Huhn pitched a scoreless fifth inning. Freshman Colin Dailey relieved and got out of a jam in the sixth before loading the bases in the seventh with a single, a walk and a fielder's choice. Freshman Carl Cano battled through the seventh inning but was tagged for the go-ahead runs. T.J. Constertina allowed one hit and struck out two as he worked a scoreless eighth inning.
