Tommie Men's and Women's Swim & Dive competed at the Minnesota Triangular Oct. 28 against Minnesota and South Dakota State. The men fell to the Gophers, 202-86, and the Jackrabbits, 183-115, while the women also fell to both the Gophers, 206-84, and the Jackrabbits, 186-112. The men finished with eight top-three finishes as the women totaled four.
Sophomore Joe Rudd was named the TicketSmarter Summit League Peak Men's Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season following the meet. He recorded two second-place finishes with times of 55.29 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 51.01 in the 100 butterfly. The 100 breaststroke time ranks second all-time in St. Thomas history and is the fastest in the Summit League this season by over one second.
Freshman Philip Jensen took third in both the 100 and 200 backstroke. His time of 52.03 in the 100 and 1:55.34 in the 200 both rank 10th all-time in program history. Both times also rank seventh in the Summit League.
Sophomore Alex Foti finished second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:43.54 and third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:54.02. His time in the 1000 freestyle is seventh in the conference and sixth all-time at St. Thomas
The women were led by junior Grace Urkiel who placed second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.31 and third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.22. Her time in the 100 breaststroke ranks fourth-best at St. Thomas and fourth in the conference this season.
Freshman Hanna Ryan took second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.83, which is the 15th fastest in program history. Sophomore Ashley Plantenberg took third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:27.89 while sophomore Elizabeth Bonneville recorded seventh place finishes in the 100 and 200 backstrokes. Both times ranked among the top 12 at St. Thomas.
