Davis' silver medal highlights day three of Summit League Championships

IOWA CITY, IOWA – The University of St. Thomas swim and dive teams had more things to celebrate at the Summit League Championships Friday. After earning bronze medal honors with the 200 medley relay team on Wednesday, sophomore Jordyn Davis (Cambridge, Wis.) earned the first individual medal of her Tommie career, winning the silver medal in the 100 backstroke. That provided the highlight of the day for St. Thomas, as both teams finished in fifth place after day three of the championship.
WOMEN'S RESULTS: FRIDAY
Davis provided the highlight of the day, earning silver medal and All-Conference honors in the 100 backstroke. In total, 10 Tommies qualified for either the "A" or "B" final Friday evening, including Davis.
It was a stellar day for the Tommie men, as they saw 13 individuals qualify for finals Friday night. Charlie Folks (Eden Prairie, Minn. / Eden Prairie) provided the highlight of the day, breaking his own program record in the 400 IM.
St. Thomas will conclude its trip to the Summit League Swim and Dive Championships on Saturday, February 21. Prelims for the final day of the conference championship are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
WOMEN'S RESULTS: FRIDAY
Davis provided the highlight of the day, earning silver medal and All-Conference honors in the 100 backstroke. In total, 10 Tommies qualified for either the "A" or "B" final Friday evening, including Davis.
- Already the program record holder, Davis finished in second in her signature event: the 100 backstroke. The sophomore swam the race in 54.44 to earn silver medal honors and also finished eighth in the 100 butterfly.
- Emily Wooden (Chino Hills, Calif. / Ayala) qualified for the "B" finals in the 100 butterfly thanks to a season best swim of 57.55. She went on to finish 14th in finals with a time of 57.70.
- Tessa Jones (Marengo, Ill. / Marian Central Catholic) impressed as the lone St. Thomas swimmer to qualify for finals in the 400 IM. The junior swam a season best 4:29.95 in finals to finish seventh.
- Three Tommies qualified for finals in the 200 freestyle. Mary Selden (Davenport, Iowa / Central) was the top finisher for St. Thomas, coming in tenth thanks to her season best swim of 1:51.26.
- Sophia Hayes (Naperville, Ill. / Central) finished 12th thanks to her time of 1:53.41, while Jin-Jae Robinson (Galena, Ohio / Olentangy Berlin) finished 16th with a time of 1:55.33.
- Brooke Gothard (Golden, Colo. /. Wheat Ridge) moved to third all-time in the 100 breaststroke, winning the "B" final with a time of 1:03.80. Teammate Izabelle Schwartz (Hutchinson, Minn. / Hutchinson) finished in 14th with a time of 1:05.82.
- Also in the 100 backstroke, Ellie Undem (Chisago City, Minn. / Chisago Lakes) qualified for the "A" final, finishing in eighth place with a time of 57.96.
- In the 400 medley relay, the team of Undem, Gothard, Davis and Amber Hess (Kohler, Wis. / Kohler) finished in fifth place with a season best time of 3:47.57.

It was a stellar day for the Tommie men, as they saw 13 individuals qualify for finals Friday night. Charlie Folks (Eden Prairie, Minn. / Eden Prairie) provided the highlight of the day, breaking his own program record in the 400 IM.
- Folks was one of several individuals to qualify for "A" finals Friday night thanks to his record breaking performance in the prelims. The junior qualified for the "A" final of the 400 IM thanks to a PR and program record time of 3:58.55. He went on to finish eighth in finals with a time of 4:00.71.
- Philip Jensen (Hastings, Minn. / Hastings) continued to impress in both the butterfly and backstroke races, qualifying for "A" finals in both. The senior finished in fifth in the 100 fly with a time of 48.36 before finishing seventh in the 100 back.
- John Trosper (Clive, Iowa / Waukee) and Nicholas Salido (Kansas City, Mo. / Rockhurst) finished 11th and 16th in the 100 fly after qualifying for the "B" final in Friday's prelims.
- Sam Sacor (Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South) finished in 16th in the 400 IM after swimming a season best time of 4:04.96 in prelims.
- Tommy Seiler (Menomonee Falls, Wis. / Menomonee Falls) was the lone Tommie to qualify for finals in the 200 freestyle, finishing in 15th with a time of 1:40.84.
- Four St. Thomas swimmers qualified for the "B" final in the 100 breaststroke: Ian Leonard (Muskego, Wis. / Muskego), Jensen Richard (Rochester, Minn. / Century), Sean Bannon (Rochester, Minn. / Century) and Joseph Sandhoefner (Minnetonka, Minn. / Benilde-St. Margaret). Leonard was the highest finisher, coming in tenth with a time of 55.41.
- Lucas Becker (Chanhassen, Minn. / Chanhassen) also swam in the 100 backstroke "A" final, finishing in eighth place.
- On the boards, Austin Kantor (Elk River, Minn. / Elk River) and Benjamin Mattera (Wayzata, Minn. / Breck) qualified for finals, finishing in 14th and 16th respectively.

St. Thomas will conclude its trip to the Summit League Swim and Dive Championships on Saturday, February 21. Prelims for the final day of the conference championship are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
