Individual wins highlight Tommies trip to First Chance Meet

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of St. Thomas swim and dive program has officially competed in its final meet for the Summit League Championship. The Tommies completed day two of the First Chance Meet, with more individual wins and top-10 swims to highlight the day.
WOMEN'S RESULTS:
St. Thomas won two races Saturday afternoon: the 400 freestyle relay and the 1650 freestyle. The Tommies also had several swimmers earn top-10 finishes in their final competition before the Summit League Championship.
Two Tommie swimmers won races Saturday afternoon, both underclassmen, to highlight the team's trip to Minnesota.
Up next for the Tommies: the Summit League Championships. St. Thomas will compete at the conference championships February 18-21 in Iowa City, Iowa. More information will be available in the upcoming weeks.
WOMEN'S RESULTS:
St. Thomas won two races Saturday afternoon: the 400 freestyle relay and the 1650 freestyle. The Tommies also had several swimmers earn top-10 finishes in their final competition before the Summit League Championship.
- St. Thomas' 400 freestyle relay team took home the gold, winning the race with a time of 3:38.94. The "A" team was comprised of three first years and one junior: Hailey Deming (Albert Lea, Minn. / Albert Lea), Madeline Byrne (Saint Paul, Minn. / Visitation), Mariah Reynolds (Mequon, Wis. / Homestead) and Eden Hill (Woodbury, Minn. / Two Rivers).
- Madeline Elseth (Grand Forks, N.D. / Central) won her first collegiate race on Saturday, claiming the top spot in the 1650 freestyle. The junior swam a collegiate PR of 18:22.13, winning the race by nearly nine seconds.
- The Tommies saw three swimmers finish in the top-10 of the 100 freestyle. Mary Selden (Davenport, Iowa / Davenport Central) finished third with a time of 52.31, while Hill and Camille Johnson (LaCrosse, Wis. / Logan) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
- Izzy Shering (Sheffield, England) finished second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.03, as St. Thomas claimed places 2-6 Saturday afternoon.
- Emily Wooden (Chino Hills, Calif. / Ayala) claimed second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.05.
- Sophia Hayes (Naperville, Ill. / Naperville Central) and Jin-Jae Robinson (Galena, Ohio / Olentangy Berlin) finished 4-5 in the 200 freestyle with times of 1:53.56 and 1:55.41 respectively.

- Miguel San Jose (Eagan, Minn. / Eagan) provided a huge highlight for St. Thomas, winning the 200 backstroke with a season best time of 1:53.10.
- John Trosper (Clive, Iowa / Waukee) won the other race for the Tommies, claiming the top spot in the 200 fly with a time of 49.10.
- Four St. Thomas swimmers earned top-10 finishes in the 200 freestyle: Tommy Seiler (Menomonee Falls, Wis. / Menomonee Falls), Charlie Folks (Eden Prairie, Minn. / Eden Prairie), Tucker Holmes (Rochester, Minn. / John Marshall) and Matt Glenna (Cottage Grove, Minn. / Park).
