St. Paul, Minn. -- Freshman Keya Luta Win Hunt set a career high 26 assists Thursday night as St. Thomas Volleyball fell to Kansas City, 3-0. The Tommies currently sit 4-25 overall and 2-14 in the Summit League with one match left to play this season.
St. Thomas and Kansas City had a slow start to the first set but picked up the pace after Emma Goerger scored the first point for the Tommies. Goerger finished the set 4-4 on attacks and had 2 blocks, one of them assisted by teammate Tezra Rudzitis. The Tommies and Kansas City ended the set in a nail-biting back-and-forth rally but fell short 29-27.
The Tommies started the set behind 7-2 but eventually went on a 7-2 run tying the teams up, 9-9. The Purple tried to pull away but were unsuccessful and ended the set, 25-20. Sophomore Ella Wheatcraft recorded a service ace to put the Tommies ahead 7-4 in the third, but scored just eight points the rest of the way as the Roos won the set, 25-15.
Sophomore Lauren Galvin finished the game with 11 kills and 9 digs and Carrie Rutledge led the Tommies with 10 digs overall.
St. Thomas will wrap up the 2022 volleyball season Nov. 19 against Oral Roberts at Schoenecker Arena. The Tommies will host Parents/Senior Day beginning at 12 p.m.
