Sophomore outside hitter’s program record kills helps Tommies to five-match winning streak

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Outside hitter Anya Schmidt brought in her second career Summit League Offensive Peak Performer of the Week honor, the league office announced Tuesday.

Schmidt, from Rogers, Minn., was awarded the offensive peak performer of the week following the final non-conference tournament of the season and now has two to her career resume.

Schmidt averaged 4.63 kills per set on a .313 hitting percentage, tying for the most kills in the league with 37 and ranking among the conference leaders with 5.31 points per set. She opened the weekend with 11 kills on a .421 hitting percentage and four service aces in a 3-0 sweep of North Dakota before delivering a career-best performance against North Dakota State.

Schmidt broke her own St. Thomas Division I-era single-match record with 26 kills in Saturday's reverse-sweep victory over NDSU, tying for the most kills in a Summit League match during the week. She added 13 digs against the Bison after recording 12 digs against North Dakota, posting double-doubles in both matches to reach nine and 10 for the season, respectively. Schmidt also tied for second in the league with four service aces over the weekend as St. Thomas improved to 8-10 overall and 6-3 in Summit League play.

St. Thomas makes its final road trip of the league season Oct. 29 and 31 as it travels to play South Dakota State on Thursday and South Dakota on Saturday.
