Tommie Watch
Tommie Men's and Women's Swim & Dive each opened their seasons Oct. 7 with a home meet against Green Bay before traveling to Sioux Falls, S.D. Oct. 8 to take on Augustana.
 
The women took a season-opening win, 157-143, over the Phoenix of Green Bay at the Anderson Pool in St. Paul. The final race of the meet, the 200-yard freestyle relay, gave the Tommies the win. The team of Elizabeth Bonneville, Libby Fischer, Grace Urkiel and Megan West won the event with a time of 1:38.67.
 
St. Thomas totaled eight event wins over Green Bay, including seven individual first-place finishes. Sophomore Ashley Plantenberg won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.98, which currently ranks 14th all-time in the event at St. Thomas.
 
Junior Grace Urkiel set three top-15 times for the program over the weekend, including the 10th fastest time in the 100 breaststroke at 1:07.03 against Augustana. Senior Allison An recorded two of the Tommies' three wins against the Vikings, sweeping the diving events.
 
Sophomore Joe Rudd gave the Tommie men their first event win of the season against the Phoenix. His time of 56.92 in the 100 breaststroke ranks seventh all-time at St. Thomas as he and senior Will Goldman, the current record holder in the event, swept the top two spots.
 
St. Thomas recorded a 178-116 win over Augustana behind 12 wins, including three from Rudd and a diving sweep from freshman Ben Linde. Rudd added another top-10 program mark, recording the eighth-fastest 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:07.11. In total, Rudd set three top-10 program times.
 
Junior Luke Ridler won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.87, placing himself 15th all-time at St. Thomas in the event.
