St. Thomas Softball broke into the Division III national top-25 poll this week for the first time this season.
Riding a five-game winning streak, Coach John Tschida's Tommies (28-8) share the No. 20 spot this week.
Three other teams assigned to the Waverly, Iowa Regional with the Toms are also ranked: Milwaukee School of Engineering (33-8), St. Olaf (24-6) and Coe (24-13) were ranked at Nos. 23, 24 and 25.
Second-seeded St. Thomas opens the six-team, double-elimination regional tourney Friday at noon as it faces Webster (Mo.).
Tschida comes into this weekend with 798 wins in 21 seasons with the Tommies.

Tommie Softball Quick Notes/May 18
- St. Thomas' 17-year streak of NCAA tournament appearances in the longest current streak in Division III
- The unranked Tommies finished fourth in the 11-team MIAC regular-season race at 17-5 closely behind St. Olaf, St. Ben's and Bethel
- The Toms have won five in a row to move to 28-8, including a 4-0 run through the MIAC Playoffs
- St. Thomas has won 15 of the 17 MIAC Playoff titles contested with a 51-6 all-time record
- Tschida has the best win percentage in NCAA softball history at .8375 (1,005-195 W-L) over 27 seasons at St. Mary's and St. Thomas
- That includes a 798-150 record in 21 seasons at St. Thomas
- Sixth-year senior Kierstin Anderson-Glass was a freshman star in 2016 and led the Toms to the eight-team D-III World Series. She missed the 2017 and 2018 seasons with medical challenges after a severe concussion. She came back and led the 2019 Tommies back to D-III World Series.
- Anderson-Glass surpassed 70 wins and 500 strikeouts on her career last weekend as she was named MVP of the MIAC Playoffs after going 4-0 with a 0.25 ERA. She has a 71-16 overall record, including a 20-3 career postseason mark.
- Leadoff hitter Coryn Jacobson went 9-for-14 with eight RBI, four runs and four steals from her leadoff spot in the Tommies' four playoff wins. Over 36 games, Jacobson is batting .417 with 40 hits, 41 runs, 34 RBI, 26 walks, 20 steals, 11 doubles, four triples and three home runs, with a .708 slug clip and a .562 on-base percentage.
- The Toms turned a school-record four double plays in a home playoff win against St. Catherine, and had no fielding errors in three MAC playoffs wins in Northfield May 14-16. They are 12-1 in games this season when they don't commit a fielding error.
