Game Notes - Women's Hockey travels to take on Lindenwood

St. Paul, Minn. – St. Thomas women's hockey (4-11-1, 2-11-1 WCHA) is set for a road weekend series at Lindenwood (3-13, 3-3 CHA) kicking off on Friday, Dec. 10 at 7:00 p.m. Game two will be played on Saturday, Dec. 10 with puck-drop set for 2:20 p.m.
Inaugural Campaign
St. Thomas enters its first season of competition at the NCAA Division I level. The team previously played at the Division III level before making the jump to Division I. The Tommies are being led by a new coaching staff, with head coach Joel Johnson being hired in early June, and he brings more than 20 years of coach experience to St. Thomas. Johnson has coached at the collegiate level as well as with USA women's hockey.
Breaking Down the Roster
St. Thomas has 12 newcomers on its roster. Three of the 12 newcomers are transfers and nine are incoming freshmen. The Tommies return 11 student-athletes from the previous season.
Tommies Schedule Talk
The Tommies play a 32-game schedule in 2021-22, and 28 of the 32 contests will come against WCHA opponents. St. Thomas will also play non-conference games at RIT and at Lindenwood.
Promersberger Breaks the Ice
Abby Promersberger scored the inaugural goal in team NCAA DI-era history in a 4-1 loss at Ohio State on Sept. 25. Anna Solheim and Megan Cornell added the first two assists in St. Thomas Division I history on Promersberger's goal

The Women rank 13th in the nation for Penalty Kill Percentage (.894) and fifth for team saves with 575 (35.9 per game).
WCHA Teams in the USCHO Poll
Wisconsin (#1), Ohio State (#2), Minnesota (#4), and Minnesota Duluth (8) all currently sit within the top 10 of the most recent USCHO poll.
Shooters Shoot
When finishing with 30 or more shots as a team, the Tommies are 2-1-0. The team's season-high shot output of 38 came in a 3-1 win at RIT on Oct. 29.
Last Time Out
The Tommies were swept by Minnesota State, losing 3-1 in the first game, and 3-0 in the second. After trailing 2-1 for a majority of the third period in game one, the Mavs tacked on a late empty-net goal to seal the win. Junior forward Jenna Hartung scored the lone goal of the series for St. Thomas. The assist on Hartung's goal came from freshman defenseman Alli Pahl. Freshman goaltender Saskia Maurer made 28 saves in game one and senior goalie Alexa Dobchuk followed up with 37 saves in game two for the Tommies. Maurer has made 28 or more saves in all but one contest this season.
Matching Up with the Lions
This weekend marks the first meeting between the two opponents. Last time out, the Lions earned a two-game sweep of RIT, and the Tommies also have swept RIT this season. Sierra Burt tallied a goal and an assist in the 4-1 game one win over the Tigers. In the second game, a 3-1 win for Lindenwood, the lions received two goals from Maddison Stitt and two assists from Megan Wagner. Lindenwood's only other victory in 2021-22 came at home against Syracuse on Oct. 23.
