Dobchuk records 37 saves in Women's Hockey's 3-0 loss to Minnesota State
12/4/2021 6:23:00 PM | Women's Hockey
St. Paul, Minn. – The aggressive offense of Minnesota State (7-9-0, 3-9-0 WCHA) was too much for St. Thomas (4-11-1, 2-11-1) on Saturday in a 3-0 loss.
In a scoreless first period, senior goaltender Alexa Dobchuk faced 17 shots, making all 17 saves. Dobchuk faced seven shot attempts on power-play situations from the Mavs in the first 20 minutes and did not allow a puck past her. The St. Thomas defense was able to get in front of 10 of the Minnesota State first period shot attempts, led by graduate defenseman Megan Cornell and junior defenseman Emma Larson, who finished with three and two shots blocked, respectively, in the opening period of competition.
The Mavericks found the net for a power-play score at the 6:03 mark in the second period to take a 1-0 lead. The Tommies were limited to just one shot on goal in the second period after amassing four SOGs in the first period. After two periods, junior forward Allie Monrean was the team-leader in faceoff victories (6).
An early goal in the third period extended the Minnesota State lead to 2-0. The Mavs would add one more, at the 13:05 mark, to push their advantage to 3-0. In total, Dobchuk played all 60 minutes and made 37 saves, while also limiting three separate MSU power-play chances.
