Nicole Vallario gets WCHA weekly honor in hockey

Freshman Nicole Vallario picked a good time to record her first collegiate goal.
The Lugano, Switzerland native scored the go-ahead and clinching goals Friday in the Tommies' 3-1 comeback win over RIT. On Monday the defenseman was named WCHA Women's Hockey Rookie of the Week, helping St. Thomas close out a 3-1, 2-1 sweep of the Rochester, N.Y., school.
Friday's first score came with just more than 8:00 left in regulation time and snapped a 1-1 tie. The latter goal came off an empty-net score in the final moments.
On the series Vallario blocked several shots to help hold the Tigers to two total goals.
